DALYAN
DALYAN Beside its natural beauties, Dalyan is very famous for its historical sites, e.g., the ruins of Caunos. Dalyan is located at the six miles long channel between the Lake of Köyceğiz and the sea. Dalyan is meaning "fishery" in Turkish, that is why a seasonal fish-netting industry was established here.

THE ANCIENT CARIAN CITY OF CAUNOS
The ruins of Caunos are located at the riverside about a mile from Dalyan. Herodotus wrote that while the people of Caunos were Carians, they were supposed to have originally come from the island of Crete. And the geographer Strabo refers to Caunos with its fortified harbour that could be closed off in times of trouble. The rock tombs can be seen in the cliff face as you cross the river. The acropolis of Caunos was built as a divided, two-part construction. The center of the city was placed near to the higher, eastern section of the hill. The impressive amphitheatre was built into the side of the acropolis hill.

LAKE OF KÖYCEĞİZ
Worldwide you will scarcely find a lake like Köyceğiz Lake. There is a two-side flow, on the one hand from the lake to the sea and on the other hand from the sea to the lake. Depending on the tide it is changing a few times during a day and it offers a very good environment for fishes to lay their eggs. It is wonderfull to have a dinner near the lake while the sun is setting. Cheers!.
DISCOVER THE LABYRINTH
The River of Köyceğiz flows through a ten kilometers long channel which is surrounded by a high and thick reed bed. Then it opens to the Mediterranean sea within a wide delta. There are plenty of ways through the reed bed to reach the sea. If you want to sail through the channel you will either need a guide or you'll discover the labyrinth yourself. Then you will reach the wonderful beach of Iztuzu which is the breeding place of the Caretta-Caretta turtles.
